1886, October: Localized Continuing Cloudless Rains

In October 1886, a small number of reports appeared in US newspapers that described several incidents wherein rain fell in a distinct small area continuosly for days (or weeks) from a cloudless sky.

While the earliest and last reports of these phenomena sound likely to be just journalistic inventions to drum up sales, one reported incident in the middle of the flap was verified in the Monthly Weather Review, a US governmental publication sumarizing the country's weather pattern, by an eyewitness!
