Legends of the World

When studying paranormal or supernatural topics, especially old, old accounts, it quickly becomes hard to distinguish between legends and incidents. Sometimes legends are inspired by real events... sometimes real events are later connected to an older legend.

Below are legends from around the world that have, at one point in time or another, become involved with actual claims for paranormal phenomena.

  • Baba-Yaga: Man-Eating ’Grandma Witch’ of Russia
  • Baku: The Dream Eaters of Japan
  • Banshees: Death Seers of Ireland
  • Black Dogs: Phantom Hounds in Legend and Life
  • Ech-Uisge, Kelpies, and Water-Horses
  • Giants: Humanoids of Fantastic Proportion
  • Gratitude of the Crane: A Japanese Legend
  • Kappa: the "River Children" of Japan
  • Kraken: Myths, Legends, and History
  • Plague Bearers: Embodiments of Disease
