1852: Fossilized Human Footprint Found in Massachusetts
In 1852, Charles H. Hitchcock discovered an exposed layer of alluvial clay by the banks of the Connecticut River near Hadley, Massachusetts, USA. In the fossilized surface of the clay were the impressions of raindrops, the tracks of many different animals, and one distinctly human footprint, about the size of a young boy's. The print had two bird prints next to it which Hitchcock took to be crow tracks... and both impressions were so clear, that the ridges of their feet could be seen in both the human and crow prints. No estimate for the age of the track was made.
