Mouth and Arms of Giant Squid, Dec. 2, 1873
This is a photograph taken on December 2, 1873, of the mouth and arms of a giant squid that was caught in fishnets off the coast of Newfoundland that year. In the struggle to untangle the body from the fishing nets, the head of the squid was separated from the mouth and arms, and the eyes were destroyed... which is why we have this odd partial squid on display.
