1900 (pub): Loch Annla's Water-Horse
A tale from the Island of Coll, Scotland, tells how a herdsman watering his cattle at Loch Annla was visited around noon one day by a stranger. Apparently they spent a little time together, perhaps talking, for the herdsman was able to observe that this person had rathum -- water-weeds -- in their hair. The stranger eventually left by jumping into the lake and disappearing from view. No harm was done, just a visit... and the people had no doubt that the stranger was the water-horse of Loch Annla, who was known to occasionally issue strange noises from the lake.
