1953: John Hunt Hears about a Yeti

The Legend:

In 1953 while on route to Everest, John Hunt and his party stopped at a monastery to rest. There they were told that a snowman or Yeti had hung around the monastery for sevevral days; it had been seen to walk on two legs and on all fours; and it was finally scared away by the monks blowing on their long horns.

Unreliable

My only source for this incident at the moment is just three sentences from an article about the "wild men of Everest" published in a 1957 issue of Popular Science. Naturally, this needs to be investigated further before it's trusted.
