1857 (pre): Blows Invisible
In 1857, John Aubrey reported the following curious event:
"Mr. Brograve, of Hamel, near Puckridge in Hertfordahire, when he was a young man, riding in a lane in that county, had a blow given him on his cheek: (or head) he looked back and saw that nobody was near behind him; anon he had such another blow, I have forgot if a third."
We are then told that Mr. Brograve went on to become a judge. Aubrey heard of the incident from a neighbor whose wife was the niece of Judge Brograve. And that is all that has been said on that... make of it what you will.
