USS Somers Hangs Mutineers, ca. 1843
On December 1, 1842, the USS Somers became infamous as one of the only ships to actually kill sailors accused of mutiny while at sea... this illustration shows them hanging just under the ship's flag. It has been alledged that the USS Somers was cursed, and that this unfortunate event was just one of the consequences.
