Statue of Liberty Black out, March 7, 2016

The image above, and those below, record the rather singular event of the Statue of Liberty's dark night on March 7, 2017, when the lights that normally highlight the statue were off, and only the crown and torch were illuminated from within. While the official reason given at the time was an unplanned outage in the power, the political turmoil in the United States at the time led both to speculation on purposeful reasons for the outage and to worries about ominous omens.
