Robert Dale Owen [1801-1877] was a Scottish-born author and U.S. statesman who is best remembered for his efforts in establishing the Smithsonian Institution... and is less well remembered for his books on paranormal matters. One story in particular is still being repeated, though generally with no credit given back to this industrious man.
