Deposition to the Academic Senate of Copenhagen
The Legend:
Sometime previous to 1654, when an account of this event was printed, the Academic Senate of Copenhagen was sent a deposition about a person who died by belching flames and then being consumed.
Paper Chase
The above vague reference is attributed by Larry Arnold to a book printed in 1654, entitled the Historiarum Anatomicarum Rariorum by Thomas H. Bartholini. According to the text Arnold quotes from Bartholini's book, the deposition in question was about a case similar to the reported fiery death of Polonus Vorstius... thus the details I give above, which is what happened to Vorstius. I will try to find a copy of Bartholini's book, as well as try to confirm the existence or non-existence of the deposition.
